No Poly/Memory Foams
Is your mattress making you sick? It's possible. Most of the big foam mattress brands are made from petroleum-based polyurethane. Paired with chemical adhesives and flame retardants, they can emit chemical odors (“off-gassing”) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) over time — which can contribute to long and short-term health risks. Memory foams are simply polyurethane foams with chemicals added to make them “slow to respond” and sometimes known carcinogens, like benzene and naphthalene to make them appear natural... At Peace Lily, we do not use any polyurethane foam or memory foam. Instead, we proudly use 100% natural Dunlop latex from tree-tapped and sustainably harvested rubber trees for a completely non-toxic sleep.
No Non-natural Latex or Chemical Glues
We do not use synthetic or blended latex — which can contain a blend of natural regenerative latex and chemical fillers and/or polyurethane foams to add durability and firmness. These tend to have an odour, break down faster, tear easier, and not last as long as natural regenerative latex. In contrast we use only 100% natural latex. It's both recyclable and biodegradable, and is also mold, mildew and dust mite resistant. Only natural latex glue is used, no chemical adhesives (which are commonly associated with off-gassing) are between the comfort layers of the mattress. This “radically minimal” approach significantly reduces your exposure to the potential of harmful chemicals, promoting an overall healthier indoor air quality.
No Cotton Grown With Pesticides
Cotton is one of the world's dirtiest crops. Cotton growers typically use many of the most hazardous pesticides on the market including aldicarb, phorate, methamidophos and endosulfan. Cotton pesticides are often broad spectrum organophosphates — pesticides originally developed as toxic nerve agents during World War II — and carbamate pesticides. It is not only potentially harmful to your health, but also extremely harmful for the environment. That's why all our fabrics are made with organic cotton and wool.
